Hardangervidda Nasjonalparksenter
Just 30 minutes west of Rjukan lies the gateway to Hardangervidda — the National Park Center at Skinnarbu. A perfect starting point for understanding Europe's largest high mountain plateau.
The Exhibitions
The center features extensive exhibitions on the wild reindeer (Europe's largest herd), geology (the Vidda is remnants of an ancient seabed), Stone Age hunters, and modern national park management. There is plenty of interactive material, perfect for school classes.
There are also exhibitions about the Helberg case and war history — Helberghytta, just north of the center, was an important resistance refuge during the war.
